Whilst travelling around New Zealand on a cruise, late 2019, before the virus that changed our circumstances quite dramatically, I took several thousand photographs. One that stood out for me and is one of my favourites was that of a red poppy on the side of the railway line as we chugged past. There it was, defiant and tenacious. It made me think of the Service women and men that we honour with the poppy emblem and seemed an appropriate nod to an Aussie in New Zealand
I thought of that photograph and that moment as I made this card with the Painted Poppies Stamp set. I wanted a simple, clean look for this one. I have used a Whisper White base card and layered it with Poppy Parade and used an embossing folder to give it an Old World Paper look. I have then stamped three poppies in Gray Granite, embossed them in Clear Embossing Powder and coloured them.
To get an accurate placement of them I used the Stamperatus tool so that the spacing was even, just like soldiers. The poppies were coloured with Old Olive and Poppy Parade Stampin' Blends. The grass was created by snipping into the bottom of a piece of scrap paper then using a dauber and Old Olive Stampin' pad, sponging the grass, building layers until happy with the look.
The sentiment is created using gold foil and a die from the Painted Labels set, as well as a die from the Stitched Shapes pack.
